Synopsis:

Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

My Thoughts:

It Ends With Us, by Colleen Hoover, was a powerful, thoroughly gripping, and emotional journey of a read.  This story was gritty, raw, and filled with angst.  It truly was Colleen Hoover at her best!

One of the reasons that I loved this book so much was the mazing cast of characters.  Lily, Atlas, and Ryle were so real to me, that they came to life within the pages of this book.  The essence of all three of them shone through brilliantly, and revealed amazing qualities, as well as amazing human flaws.  Ms. Hoover did a brilliant job of showing us that people and situations are not black and white, but rather many shades of gray.

I connected with Lily's character right away, and as she went through life's ups and downs; I was right alongside her, feeling happiness, joy, anger, pain, love, and loss.  I revered her strong spirit, endless courage, and beautiful heart.  She grew up in a dysfunctional family, with a father that abused her mother, and that anger, and bitterness shaped her in many ways.  Atlas was her first love, and as I read Lily's journal entries, I fell in love with him too.  Ryle was an ambitious, and hard-working up and coming neurosurgeon, who had a lot of baggage.  I also fell in love with him alongside Lily.

It Ends With Us doesn't contain a love triangle.  I want to make that clear.  However, both Atlas and Ryle play a significant role in the story, and were phenomenal characters.  Ryle's sister, Alyssa, was one of my favorite characters as well.  She was an excellent best friend to Lily.  Warm-hearted, supportive, and fun is how I would classify her.

It Ends With Us, is a story about breaking destructive patterns, and learning how to look at a situation from a different perspective.  We cannot judge another person, until we have walked in their shoes.  It is about life lessons, love, pain, and reaching down inside of yourself to find the strength to heal and be resilient despite life's circumstances.

There were plenty of tender moments, butterfly-inducing moments, cringe-worthy moments, as well as powerful and inspiring moments.  One thing is for certain; this book is a need-to-read!  I couldn't put it down, and had to keep reading; no matter what!  I will shamelessly admit, I kept sneaking in bits of reading at my mom's birthday dinner, as well as moments during my daughter's therapy, and every moment in-between.  This story should come with a warning label, "Do not begin reading, unless you have no other responsibilities to attend to."

My Rating:

I give, It Ends With Us, by Colleen Hoover, 5 Falling in Love, Teary-Eyed, Addictive-Read Filled Stars!  Read this book as soon as possible; It's a guaranteed favorite!!!

Blog Tour: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

GR's Summary:

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.

Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.

Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

My Thoughts:

Ugly Love was such a profound story about life, love, and loss.  There is something so special about Ms. Hoover's writing style.  She has the ability to completely pull me in to each story she writes, I get completely invested, and feel every ounce of pain and joy that her characters feel right along with them.

In Ugly Love, we get Miles and Tate's story.  Tate is an RN, and moves from San Diego to San Francisco to live with her older brother, Corbin, while she gets her Master's Degree in Nursing.  When she arrives at Corbin's apartment, she meets Miles (Corbin's across-the-way neighbor, and good friend.)  The two don't exactly hit it off, but Tate finds Miles extremely attractive.  The more time that Tate and Miles are around one another, the more that their attraction and sexual attraction grows.  Miles approaches Tate about having a sex only, no-strings attached relationship, and has only two rules.  The first rule is that she is never to ask him about his past, and the second one is that she is never to expect or hope for a future.  Tate readily agrees, and thinks that they can both keep everything light and fun between each other.

However, Tate finds herself falling in love with Miles.  Yet, it is obvious that he has some serious issues.  Miles is a shell of a person, and hasn't had a girlfriend or sex in six years.  This story is told by Tate in the present time, as well as Miles as we get the story of what happened to him six years ago to make him the shell of the man that he is today.  I completely felt for Tate, and understood that even though it was tearing her up inside, she didn't want to leave him.  It was also obvious that Miles was a good person, but that he was emotionally scarred.

Ugly Love was about the fact that when we love someone deeply, we become vulnerable.  Is it worth it to love someone, and risk the possibility of feeling tremendous pain as well?  Ugly love made me experience a large array of emotions.  I felt excited, hopeful, angry, sad, relieved, and happy.  This story touched so much on real life, and how painful it can be, as well as how joyful it can be.  I highly recommend Ugly Love.  It is another exceptional story written by Colleen Hoover.

My Rating:

I give Ugly Love, by Colleen Hoover, 5+ Heartbreaking, Beautiful, and Hopeful stars!  This story was so beautiful!  It really touched my heart.  I can't imagine anyone reading this, and not shedding tears.  This story was written in Ms. Hoover's signature writing style that I have come to treasure and love; character's came to life, Miles and Tate's feelings were palpable, and I was completely immersed in their exquisite love story!

My Favorite Quote:

"...I've wondered how someone could be so beautiful if there wasn't a God.  I've wondered how someone could make me so incredibly happy if God didn't exist.  And I realized...just now...that God gives us the ugliness so we don't take the beautiful things in life for granted."  (ARC, Loc. 142)

Lindy's Thoughts:

Colleen Hoover has been one of my favorite authors ever since I read her Slammed Series!  Then, when I read her Hopeless series, it sealed the deal!  That's why when I heard about Maybe Someday, it got immediately added to my wish list!

Maybe Someday took me by surprise!  I was expecting an excellent story, but this one really took my breath away!  It was vastly different from any love story that I have ever read.  Ridge, Sydney, and Maggie owned my heart.  I completely felt for each of these characters plights, and wanted to protect them from any pain.  In this story, we come to realize that we can't control the matters of the heart.  It wants what it wants!

I love how Ms. Hoover incorporated musical lyrics in to this story.  She used it as a way for Sydney and Ridge to communicate the depth of their feelings for one another through song.  The lyrics read like beautiful poetry, and I was in every moment with Ridge and Sydney.

There is so much that I could say about this intoxicating story, but I don't want to spoil it or ruin it for others.  Suffice it to say, this story is a treasure, and a gift from Ms. Hoover to her readers.  You will never read another story like this, and you will never forget it!

My Rating:

I give Maybe Someday, by Colleen Hoover, 5 Beautiful, Sentimental, Profound, and Deeply Romantic Stars!  I highly recommend this story to everyone.  It will completely touch your heart, and make you feel so much, and so deeply!  Ms. Hoover never fails to impress me with the beauty of her stories.  Maybe Someday is special, and has been added to my favorites list!

My Favorite Quote:

"He makes me feel more beautiful.  More important.  More loved.  More needed.  I feel more everything, and with every second that passes, I become more and more greedy, wanting all of every single part of him."  (eARC, Loc. 4849)

~Sydney

Mikki's Review:

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover is an epic love story that will leave you breathless! Trust me, your heart will be beating to the melody of each word!

Do you ever wish you could go back in time and do something all over again for the first time? Well, it just happened to me. I want to go back in time and read this book for the first time! I wish I could go back to that first word, quote, chapter that made my heart skip a beat. Every single word transforms into a lyric of a song that I want to learn by heart and play over and over again! If you have not read any of Colleen Hoover’s brilliant work YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!! Every book she writes is an incomparable and unforgettable journey!

Turning twenty-two is taking a turn for the worst for Sydney Blake. Her boyfriend of two years as been cheating on her with her best friend. After she finds out about that painful betrayal, she is left homeless and heartbroken. When her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson, opens the door to his house and offers her a place to stay, she can’t refuse. Where else could she go? Her parent’s house is out of the question since she would never hear the end it. Her dad always wanted for her to attend law school, she on the other hand wants to become an elementary music teacher.  Ridge can't find the inspiration for his next songs. When Sydney enters his life unexpectedly, he finds the muse he’s been looking for. When he offers her a place to stay and they become roommates, a beautiful friendship grows between them. As time goes by, they write lyrics together that are more than just words on a piece of paper. Those lyrics are a revelation of the intense bond that they share. On their journey together, they will learn that when the heart speaks, they can't always control what it says.

Sydney and Ridge are two of the most unique, strong, beautiful, honest and inspiring characters that I have read about! They feel so REAL! These are the kind of characters that I cheer and want in a book. I caught myself putting my hand over my heart on many occasions while reading their story. Their love story is heartbreaking, captivating and powerful. My heart was literally aching for them! I do suggest you keep a box a tissue near you at all times. This beautifully written story will leave you picking up the pieces of your shattered heart in more than one occasion.

I really don’t want to give anything away about their story. You have to feel, live, inhale and exhale every single moment of their journey. What I love the most about Colleen Hoover’s writing style is that she knows exactly how to grab my attention from the very beginning of the story. Even if the romance was slow-building the intensity of how it developed was SPECTACULAR! I loved how music was tangled in the storyline. This brought my reading experience to a whole new level. I listened to the songs and it left me with a huge smile on my face. I could actually close my eyes and see them in Ridge’s room writing their feelings for each other.

Don’t even get me started on the intense chemistry that they have together! Oh my God!!!! It's ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! Colleen Hoover knows how to write an unforgettable first kiss!!!! *Swoon* One other thing that I absolutely adore about this author is how she creates memorable supporting characters. Not only did I fall in love with Sydney and Ridge, but Warren and Maggie stole my heart as well. I really can't get enough for them. They are fun, likable and addictive! This book, story, characters will forever hold a place in my heart. I will never forget this beautiful story!

My Rating:

I give, Maybe Someday, by Colleen Hoover 5 poignant, sensational, exquisite, heart-pumping, brilliant stars! Add this phenomenal story to your TBR list and prepare yourself to Beat, beat, pause. Contract, expand. Inhale, exhale.

Q&A With Colleen & Griffin

Today, we would love to welcome Colleen and Griffin to the blog!  We are so excited to get to ask questions behind the written and musical collaboration of Maybe Someday!

Lindy: Colleen, how did you hear about and/or meet Griffin?

Colleen: One night readers started blowing up my Facebook and Twitter pages saying I HAD to turn on the TV and watch American Idol because Holder was on. They were referring to Griffin, who apparently matched the mental images they had of Holder, a character from my book, Hopeless. I reached out to him to explain why so many people were calling him Holder. Eventually, he ended up posing for the cover of the companion novel to Hopeless, Losing Hope. I was already familiar with Griffin's work and knew I liked it, so when I needed someone to record music for Maybe Someday, I thought of him.

Lindy: Who came up with the idea of a book & music collaboration, and what sparked the idea?

Colleen: I came up with the idea not long after I wrote my first book, Slammed. Readers responded so positively to the inclusion of The Avett Brothers' lyrics in Slammed, so I thought it would be cool to take that one step further and include original lyrics written by the characters. That idea eventually blossomed into actually having the lyrics put to music and having the songs recorded to go along with the book. In the beginning, I had some other songs I was using, but a couple of weeks before my manuscript was due I ran into some legal issues with those songs and ended up with a story that had no lyrics and no music to go along with it. This is when I thought of Griffin. Not only was he enthusiastic about the opportunity, but within two weeks he had 8 full songs ready for the story.

Lindy: Griffin, Did you read Maybe Someday?  If so, What are some of your thoughts on the story?

Griffin: I did! I thought it was great, and was really able to relate to using music as a way to express things that can sometimes be hard to say. I think people will really be able to relate to this story on a lot of levels.

Lindy: Tell us a little bit about the process behind writing music to fit the story.

Griffin:  Colleen would send me scenes from the book and I would respond with lyrics that I thought captured what the characters were going through at that point in the story. Some of it was music I'd already written that I thought fit the scenes well, and the rest was inspired by the story.

Lindy: Is another collaboration between the both of you in the future?

Colleen: We don't have any definite plans, but we're both open to the possibility!
