Book Summary:
Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller Lick.
Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn't plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn't count on finding the one right girl.
Anne Rollins never thought she'd ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn't end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

My Thoughts:
Play is the second book in the Stage Dive Series. It 's about the funniest band member of the group, drummer Malcolm "Mal" Ericson, and Ev's friend and former neighbor, Anne Rollins. One night Mal and Anne meet at a big party thrown by David and Ev. Anne is going through a rough patch. Her "good" friend and roommate, who owed Anne a ton of money, left her high and dry, cleaning out their shared apartment before she left. At the party, Mal overhears Anne's phone conversation with her good friend Reese, and makes the observation that Anne gets taken advantage of by a lot of people and needs to learn how to set healthy boundaries.
Anne's hugest teen crush was none other than Mal Erickson. While initially tongue-tied from being starstuck by her gorgeous teenage crush, she quickly becomes feisty and defensive with Mal. Anne and Mal engage in a ton of fun and entertaining banter. Mutual attraction is there, as well as Mal's ability to push Anne's button's.
Mal is in need of a pretend girlfriend, and he thinks Anne is the perfect choice. She needs the money and he can cover her apartment expenses, so she agrees with a few stipulations. Plus, he makes it hard to say "no" when she comes home after work, the next day, to find that he took it upon himself to pay up her rent, and move himself and all of his furniture in.
Anne is a down to earth girl, whom you can't help but love. She hasn't had the best of luck with men, and she had a traumatic and dysfunctional home life. growing up. She basically brought up her younger sister Lizzy, and has sacrificed a lot. Anne is caring, responsible, and "The girl next door." Mal is currently going through a lot, but has closed himself off, and hasn't confided in anyone. Everyone that is close to him is worried about him, but he tends to hide behind jokes and laughter.
Anne and Mal complimented one another. She didn't take him too seriously when he was joking, and had a few jokes of her own. Mal could be himself with Anne and didn't have to pretend, because she accepted and loved him wholeheartedly for who he was. She didn't take advantage of his status or demand anything from him that he wasn't willing to give. She was patient, kind, fun, and good at learning how to stand up for herself. Mal was sensitive to Anne's feelings and didn't like to see her sad. He treated her adoringly, and would do anything to make her smile or laugh. These two had unbelievable chemistry and were an amazing pair.
There were some very serious and emotional parts to this story, but it was balanced with steamy romance, and fun and comedy as well. Mal was such a hilarious character. You never knew what he was going to say or do, and he had me smiling and laughing with his antics throughout the whole story. Anne was the perfect partner in crime and was always up for whatever mischief and mayhem Mal had in mind!!!
