Synopsis
Revenge is sweet, just like candy.
Candy Seaborne knows she’s badass. She takes after her father, an assassin and possibly a spy, although he won’t admit to either. She idolizes him. Her dream is to follow in his footsteps. But first, she has to finish high school.
Biding her time, waiting for real life to begin, Candy craves drama and isn’t above manufacturing some. If you’re a classmate who wronged her or a boyfriend who cheated, watch your back. She’s no pushover, and revenge may be her favorite pastime.
Jonah Bryson is the senior class heartthrob who breaks all the stereotypes. He’s a jock, but he isn’t the typical player. He’s moody and antisocial. No girl has gotten anywhere with him since his last girlfriend broke his heart.
Candy sees Jonah as a challenge and the perfect distraction. But she may be in over her head because unlike everyone else, Jonah isn’t buying her tough act. He sees the lost, lonely girl inside. He sees too much. When he looks at her that way, she wants to let her guard down and be vulnerable. But that’s the last thing she should do because her father’s world is spilling over into hers, and life is about to get real much sooner than Candy expected.
This story is told over two full-length books.
Like Candy (The Candy Series #1) releases on July 28th
Sweet Liar (The Candy Series #2) will be available this fall.
Commitment To Family Always Comes First
Yikes!! Like Candy was phenomenal I did not want to put this down and neither will the reader. Doxer is and will forever be on my favorite authors and auto buy list. Regardless of the type of book this lady can write and she does it amazingly throughout any genre. I couldn’t wait to see what was in store I’m so happy I did…and I absolutely recommend this book.
The Story, Candy has one mission in life and it is to connect to her father. There are some things that have happened in Candy’s life that have made her the way she is. Now she is back with her father and she wishes for him to really see her and to embrace her. Candy will do what ever it takes in order for him to see her truly once and for all. Meeting Jonah places an unnecessary distraction in her life. Losing sight of what has always been a part of her plans brings a nice distraction but unfortunately it cannot last. No one says anything about love but the emotions between Candy and Jonah are one hundred percent palpable. The truths revealed will endanger this gentle thread but I hope the heart overcomes.
The Characters, Candy knows what she wants and she will do what it takes to accomplish her goals. She is smart focused and determined. Candy is not afraid to get her hands dirty, and her resilience is one of the biggest reasons I absolutely fell in love with her. Jonah is gorgeous but he has a secret and we are no closer to finding out what that is by the end of this read. Jonah and Candy have an undeniable chemistry but there is something going on behind the scenes that also can not be ignored. The few moments of happiness experienced by Candy were wonderful additions to the story. I don’t know how this series will end but I am very excited about the next installment.
The End, this is quite possibly one of the hardest cliff hanger endings I’ve ever read. This is a rip your heart out eyes bulging out of your head kind of an ending. I won’t go into details about the ending itself but I will say the reader is on the brink of answers just before things explode. Candy’s father has always been aloof but he will finally come to realize he needs his daughter by his side. I’m not sure what his work life is like but I hope things work out between him and his daughter. Candy has been through so much pain in her life that it would just shred me to pieces if she doesn’t connect with her father, as it is the one thing she wants the most in this world. I honestly don’t see how Doxer is going to give us an HEA but i’m looking forward to finding out!!

AUTHOR BIO
Debra Doxer was born in Boston, and other than a few lost years in the California sunshine, she has always resided in the Boston area. She writes fiction, technical software documents, illegible scribbles on sticky notes, and texts that get mangled by AutoCorrect. She writes for a living, and she writes for fun. When her daughter asks when she’ll run out of words, her response always is, “When I run out of time.”
Connect with Debra. She loves hearing from readers.
