Synopsis:

It’s all fun and games…until someone’s heart is broken.

They’re not kids anymore, but Milo Caro is certain that Colton Mathews will only see her as his best friend’s little sister for the rest of their lives. After all, he made that clear the night before she left for college. But four years later, her brother is getting married and Colt’s the best man—and guess who is the best man’s last-minute date?

Milo vows to use the wedding to either claim the smoldering firefighter’s heart or douse this torch for good. When Max—her best friend from college, who may be carrying a torch of his own—crashes the party, they devise a plan to make Colt see what he’s missing. But after Colt catches on, he decides to cook up his own revenge.

Now it’s personal. Colt and Milo are at war, and between Max’s questionable acting methods, an unfortunate trip to jail, and a maniacal fiancée, what could possibly go right?

Lindy's Thoughts:

The Consequence of Loving Colton, by Rachel Van Dyken, was vastly different from what I was anticipating. Initially, when I saw the book cover and read the synopsis, I came to expect a very serious, sweet, tender, passionate, and sexy romance. I enjoy the whole forbidden romance trope, as well as the fake boyfriend theme. However, as I began to turn the pages, I quickly realized that this story was a romantic comedy full of tomfoolery and an entertaining comedy of errors.

Milo has been madly in love with her older brother, Jason's best friend, Colton, for many years. However, he treats her like she is his younger sister, and doesn't appear to notice that she is all grown up now. When Jason and his fiancee' Jayne are about to tie the knot, Milo comes home for the weekend. Milo hasn't seen Colton for eighteen months (because she's been avoiding him,) and when she see's him, she realizes that her feelings for him are stronger than ever. Milo and Colton end up sharing a kiss that goes wrong, when he acts like it was a big mistake. Milo breaks down in tears, and to hide her embarrassment, makes up a story about feeling bad for cheating on her boyfriend.

Here's where Milo's fake boyfriend comes in. She has her best friend, a good-looking player, by the name of Max, come down for the weekend. Max plans on helping Milo make Colton jealous, so that she will finally get the guy of her dreams. Needless to say, the wedding weekend turns out to deliver plenty of surprises, chaos, melodrama, and interesting situations....

This story was entertaining, fun, and offbeat. It was quirky, and melodramatic. Shenanigans ensued and the main character, Milo, came off as a bit of a ding bat. I could see this book being turned in to a play or movie, and marketed as a romantic comedy. If you are looking for a more serious story, with down-to-earth characters, then this would not be a good fit. However, if you are looking for laughs, "slipping and falling on a banana peel type of comedy," with a touch of romance and a huge HEA, then this is the book for you.

My Rating:

I give, The Consequences of Loving Colton, by Rachel Van Dyken, 3 Whacky Mishap, Lifelong Crush, Slap Stick Comedy Filled Stars!

Mikki's Review:

I am a big fan of Rachel Van Dyken. I fell in love with her Ruin and Eagle Elite series. Those series have made me feel all kinds of emotions while reading them. When I read the synopsis for The Consequence of Loving Colton, I knew that it would not leave me emotionally drained. I was expecting a fun and light novel and, it's exactly what it was. Falling for your brother's best friend has never been this hilarious!

Milo has been in love with Colton since she was thirteen. Colton always treated her like a little sister and, that's the last thing she wants. She loves him deeply, but when she tried to get close to him and reveal her feelings she was burned. Four years later, she's back for her brother's wedding and she knows that there is no running away from Colton. She will be spending every single moment with him. When Colton comes face-to-face with Milo, he can't deny that his feelings for her are strong and sincere. When Milo's best friend, Max, shows up as Milo's ''boyfriend'' Colton sees red. Milo and Max have the perfect plan to make Colton realize his girl won't be waiting forever. Will Colton fight for Milo or will he let another precious moment go by?

TCoLC was very different from what I'm used to from Rachel Van Dyken. I think it's very similar to her Bet series. I have heard that those book are very funny. I really liked Milo and Colton, but I have to admit that they drove me nuts in many occasions!!! Their cat and mouse game was funny, but I wanted a bit more from them. I can't deny that their chemistry was good, but I felt like the moments that they shared together were spent fighting about silly things instead of revealing the way the felt about each other. This book was playing out like a movie while I was reading it. It made me think a bit of The Hangover ... lol!!! There is an event in this book that is a total fiasco!!! I could not stop laughing. There was a lot of LOL moments, but a few WTH moments as well.

There were a few supporting characters that stole the show in this book. Max was my favorite one. He was seriously funny and I think that if Milo and Colton finally took a step forward with their relationship it's because of him. Milo's grandmother was all kinds of cray-cray!!! She's a wild one! lol!! The rest of the supporting characters all brought something fun to the story and it made me enjoy it even more.

Overall, I was expecting a bit more of romance, but it still was an enjoyable reading escape. Max, Milo's best friend, his getting his book next. I'm looking forward to it. I really liked him in TCoLC. I'm sure there will be many hilarious moments in his book as well.

My Rating:

I give The Consequence of Loving Colton, by Rachel Van Dyken, 3.5 fun, enjoyable, entertaining, be-the-doughnut stars!
