My Favorite Quote:
Ms. Douglas has had huge success in writing her Fall Away Series, and I am not one bit surprised. From the moment I read Bully, I was addicted to these characters, and their stories. Ms. Douglas makes you feel every emotion right along with her characters. Whenever I read a book in this series, it's inevitable that I will become a sniveling ball of emotions. Tate, Jared, Madoc, Fallon, Jax and K.C. have come to mean so much to me. Each of these characters are beautifully broken, vulnerable, and as a reader, you will empathize with them and want to heal them.
My poor Jax! He has been one of my favorite characters out of the whole cast, since the first story in the series. He has had to survive a horrible childhood in which he was traumatized by physical and sexual abuse, as well as neglect. He has such a huge heart, and is liked by everyone. He is charming, and hides his feelings, but underneath it all is a whirlwind of traumatized emotion. K.C. has scars as well. However, as a reader, we have not been privy to her past, and who she really is underneath the facade.
When K.C. becomes arrested, she is court ordered to return home and complete community service hours. She takes on a job at her old high school as an English tutor, and while their she runs in to the infuriatingly sexy Jax. She has always been attracted to him, but knew it was best to stay clear of him, because she feared he could break her. However, Jax is determined to make her his, and this time he isn't taking "no" for an answer.
I loved the depth in which Ms. Douglas explored K.C. and Jax characters. I learned so much about their pasts, their fears, what was important to them, and who they really were as individuals. The chemistry was so hot between Jax and K.C, and while I expected nothing less from Ms. Douglas, these two together were like a furnace imploding!!! Wow!!! I did not want this story to end, and when it did, I came down with a major book hangover!

Mikki's Review:
Falling Away features Jax Trent, which is Jared’s brother, and K.C. Carter, which is Tate’s best friend. These two have this explosive chemistry that sizzles every time that they are in the same room. Holy Crapola!! The sexy scenes in this book are crazy HOT!!! They have this love and hate relationship that is simply INTOXICATING!!!! Since the moment they met, K.C. has secretly felt something for Jax. When she comes back to town and comes face-to-face with Jax, she soon realizes that the feelings she has towards him are undeniable. I have to admit that all the characters in this story are unique and simply irresistible. I love them all to pieces and they all have a special place in my heart. These enemies-to-lovers couples will leave you breathless with their all-consuming love stories.
When I found out that K.C. was going to be Jax’s love interest in this book, I had mixed emotions. Let me explain. For all of you that have read Bully you might figure out why K.C. was not one of my favorite characters. I liked her in the beginning of the story, but after what happened with her best friend, Tate, I was a bit frustrated with her. I could not figure her out! What I did know, is that Penelope Douglas has never disappointed me since the beginning of this series, and I was confident that by the end of Falling Away we would know who the real K.C. was. It took me less than five chapters to fall in love with K.C.! I love Jax to the moon and back, but K.C. stole the show for me in this book! K.C. and Jax have grown so much since the beginning of this series. Jax pushed K.C. out of her comfort zone so many times. I loved his persistence and how he never stopped until he got what he wanted.
Both these characters were still a mystery to me when I started reading this book. After reading the first three books in this series, I knew that Jax had some pretty ugly memories from his childhood, but when I found out about every single detail, my heart broke into a million pieces :( I wanted to reach into the book and give him a hug! Same thing happened with K.C. I had no clue what was hiding in her past, but when I found out I was shocked! The more I read about her past the more I understood why K.C. was the way she was.
Falling Away exceeded all of my expectations! It was everything that I expected it to be and more! Penelope Douglas is an auto-buy author for me. I don’t even need to read her blurbs or see her book covers to know that her books are going on my TBR list. Whenever I start one of her books, I know that I am in for an incredible reading escape. She makes me want to live in this world that she created.
If you read Falling Away, you probably know that Tate and Jared are getting another book. I won’t deny that there was some ugly crying involved at the end of Falling Away. I only have this to say to Penelope Douglas about Aflame …. Here ---> This is my <3 I trust you with it. I expect it to break into a million pieces, but I know that every single word that you wrote will make it whole again. This book is going to be EPIC! A special THANK YOU to Jared for knocking on the door of Penelope’s writing cave. I can't wait to see what he has to say. Until You was phenomenal! I love all the books in this series, but that one is probably my favorite. That book written from Jared's POV was out of this world!!!!

Falling Away - Chapter 9
“Jax, I can’t,” she breathed, placing her hands on my chest. “I . . . ,” she stammered, “I don’t exactly dislike you anymore, but this isn’t a good idea. As much as I’d like to give in, I can’t be that girl.”
“What girl?” She stared at me.
“A one-night stand.” My fists tightened around her shirt. So that was what she thought I wanted?
My voice hardened. “What makes you think you’d be a one-night stand?”
“Because you’re Jared Trent’s brother. Because you’re young. Why would you want more?” she asked, her tone light. “I’m not trying to be prissy, okay? You get to me. I like the way you feel. I’m just not ready for this.” Her lips pursed, and she started to rise, but I pulled her back down.
“Ready for what?” I bit out, getting seriously f*cking annoyed at her assumptions and the fact that she compared me to Jared. Two minutes ago she’d had her arms and legs wrapped around me.
Her eyebrows shot up, challenging me. “This,” she spat out, and dug into my pocket, pulling out my knife. “It’s been digging into the back of my thigh since I sat down. Why do you have so many computers? Why do the cops let you get away with anything? What do you do to make a living? And why do you carry a knife, Jax?”
My chest filled with delight at her anger. She was getting ballsier by the minute.
I shot her a smirk. “Because it’s quiet.”
And I almost laughed at her arched eyebrow. She was asking why I carried a knife, and I just answered why I carried a knife instead of a gun.
She averted her eyes, but I caught the annoyed expression as she raised the knife up to her face, studying it. She hit the button, and the blade shot out right between us.
I had only a moment to wonder what the hell she was doing before I reared back, seeing her jab
the knife into my space.
“You think you scare me, don’t you?” she taunted, holding the blade to my neck, playing with me.
I sucked in a few quick breaths and let out a startled laugh as my heart slammed against my ribs. Well, this was new.
I swallowed, meeting her triumphant little smile and leaning into the blade, feeling the sharp, cool steel bite into my neck. “You want to play? You don’t know how to play my games, Juliet.”
And I snatched the knife out of her scarred hand and brought it down to the hem of her shirt, slicing it up the middle.
“Jax!” she screamed, fumbling with her now useless T-shirt as I threw the blade onto the floor.
“What are you doing?” Grabbing her around the waist, I stood up, whipped her around, and planted her in front of the window looking down onto the backyard full of partiers.
I wrapped my arms around her shaking body and growled into her ear from behind her, “God, Juliet. You think I just wanna f*ck? You think I wanna keep myself hidden and mysterious, because it’s my play to get women into bed? Huh?” I pressed. “No, baby. I could f*ck ten different girls tonight if I wanted to. I don’t want to do that.”
Her chest shook, and she squirmed against me, probably scared that we could be seen out the window.
“So, what do you want?” she cried. “If not a one-night stand?”
I closed my burning eyes, and buried my lips in her hair. “I want to terrorize you,” I confessed. “I want to cut you without drawing blood. I want to break you.” I pulled her into me. “And then I want to f*ck you.”
From the moment I laid eyes on her I had wanted to break her out of her shell. I wanted to see her undone, and I wanted to take her over. For how long, I didn’t know, but I knew it would be for
more than one night.
I also knew it wouldn’t be forever.
Her breathing slowed, and she stilled, staring out the window. I straightened behind her and peeled off the T-shirt she was holding closed.
“Jax,” she whimpered, turning her face to me. “They can see us.”
Reaching around, I turned her chin back toward the window. “They can’t see you. The window’s tinted.” The shirt, sliced up the front, fell down her arms and spilled to the floor. “But you can seethem, Juliet,” I pointed out, gently running my hands up her bare arms. “They drink, they laugh, they have meaningless conversations about what’s trending on Twitter.” I paused and dug my fingers into her hips, pulling her ass into me and breathing into her ear, “And I’m so jacked up I want you so bad.”
