GR's Summary:
The Bourne Identity meets Divergent in this heart-pounding debut.
Sixteen-year-old Sarah has a rare chance at a new life. Or so the doctors tell her. She’s been undergoing a cutting-edge procedure that will render her a tabula rasa—a blank slate. Memory by memory her troubled past is being taken away.
But when her final surgery is interrupted and a team of elite soldiers invades the isolated hospital under cover of a massive blizzard, her fresh start could be her end.
Navigating familiar halls that have become a dangerous maze with the help of a teen computer hacker who's trying to bring the hospital down for his own reasons, Sarah starts to piece together who she is and why someone would want her erased. And she won’t be silenced again.
A high-stakes thriller featuring a non-stop race for survival and a smart heroine who will risk everything, Tabula Rasa is, in short, unforgettable.
My Thoughts:
Tabula Rasa was an excellent read!!! Non-stop suspense, action-packed, heart pounding, and a thrill rids a minute! This is on story you do not want to miss! I love dystopian stories! When I read the synopsis for this book, and saw that it was compared to both Divergent and The Bourne Identity, I was dying to read it! I was also a little worried that it would not meet my expectations! Boy, am I glad that it was everything promised and more.
The story opens up by introducing us to sixteen-year old Sarah, who is being kept in a "hospital." At least that is what she is being told. She has also been informed that she is undergoing Tabula Rasa, a medical process in which doctors are working on her brain and erasing her memories. Her memories are being erased because she is supposedly battling PTSD, and has painful memories that need to be erased, so that she can be happy again. However, things are strange in the hospital. Patients are not allowed to interact, their are no mirrors, because they are not allowed to see their own image, and some of the patients are brain dead, a side effect that can occur from the multiple brain surgeries.
Sarah is about to undergo extensive brain surgery when a blizzard occurs outside, which has the staff acting weird. The helicopters with swipers begin shooting everyone; patients and staff alike. Sarah is on the run, as she tries to escape death. While she is hiding, she meets Thomas, good-looking computer hacker. She convinces him to take her with him. As she gets to know Thomas she learns that she was an activist who was exposing government corruption to the people. Her nickname was "Angel," and she has a huge following for her heroic deeds, and her kick-butt persona. An unknown a lli, who left her pills before everything went down, is causing her to get back her memories one by one. With Thomas by her side, they are about to go on a dangerous, and suspenseful race to survive as they discover why someone is trying to kill her...
Angel and Thomas were great characters! I loved the mystery surrounding Angel. It kept me turning pages quickly. Plus, with the suspense, and thrill of the run, I kept holding my breath hoping that she would survive! Thomas was such a funny character. He kept the story entertaining, and even though this story did not focus on romance, there still was an element of it between these two characters. I think Tabula Rasa would be a great story for the big screen! The authors writing had me visualizing everything clearly, and I could see everything as if it was happening before my eyes! I highly recommend Tabula Rasa, by Kristen Lippert-Martin. I can't believe this is her debut! I am looking forward to what she comes out with next. I give Tabula Rasa 4 Thrilling, Suspenseful, Secrets Revealed, On the Run, Danger Lurking Everywhere Filled Stars! If you like action-packed, Dystopians, read Tabula Rasa!!!

ReplyDeleteThe review was interesting; I've wanted to read this since I first heard about it. I wasn't sure if it could live up to the hype, either. I'm glad to hear you say that it did. Thanks for this chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you said it would make a good movie really stands out to me. I love when I read a book and can see it as a movie. Of course quite often when they do get made into movies, they don't do it justice though.
ReplyDeleteI just saw this book earlier today and it does look interesting.
