Rival exec Zack Douglas never wastes an opportunity to land the next big deal—especially when it benefits him. A bad boy with a reputation to match, he has no qualms about doing whatever it takes to get ahead, no matter who gets in the way.
When a hot promotion pops up at their company, both Zack and Madelyn wind up on the short list for the position. But as the two square off, they discover that being heated rivals in the office makes for scorching bed play behind closed doors. My Review:
The Last Man on Earth by Tracy Anne Warren is the first installment in The Graysons Series. The blurb captivated my attention immediately and I could not wait to start reading Madelyn and Zack's story. This book was a great reading escape!
Madelyn Grayson and Zack Douglas work for the same advertising agency. They have been rivals for quite some time. Madelyn can't stand Zack and his playboy ways. On the other hand, Zack does not necessarily hate his confident and determined co-worker. He has been keeping an eye on her since he started working for Fielding and Simmons. But, like everybody knows ... there is a thin line between love and hate. And, on New Years when they share their first kiss they both cross that line. After a few weeks of secret passionate rendez-vous Madelyn never expect to find the man who would make her heart skip a beat. A man that would make her forget about everything else around her. He's the last man on heart she expected to fall for. Zack has been burned in the past. He wants nothing to do with a commitment. But, the way he feels about Madelyn is stronger than anything he's ever felt before. Is he ready to let go of is playboy days and give love a chance in the arms of his beloved rival?
This book was really fast-paced and enjoyable. The storyline was predictable, but it still kept me turning the pages. I wanted to find out how Madelyn and Zack were going to overcome the obstacles that kept them apart. Like with any other book I read, I try to find my connection with the main characters within the first pages. Madelyn and Zack did have chemistry, but I wanted it to be more intense. I wanted the sexual tension to be explosive and see them get under each other's skin. Madelyn and Zack already knew each other at the beginning of the book so maybe that's why I had mixed emotions about my connection with them. But, I have to be honest and say that I did see sparks fly when they first kissed. I really loved Zack and the way he was honest about how he felt about a relationship. He was left pretty disappointed in the past and he took big steps to get over all of his insecurities. Madelyn was also an enjoyable character, but I did have some trouble connecting with her in some parts of the story. I don't want to give out any spoilers, but she did some stuff and took some decisions that left me confused. It broke my heart to see that she was running from her feelings and hurting people she loved along the way. This couple went through many ups and downs both on the professional and personal side. I liked the first half of the book, but I must admit that the second half was better. It was more intense and I could not wait to see what would happen next.
The next book in The Graysons Series will be about, Ivy, Madelyn's little sister. I really liked her and I can't wait to read about her story. Her love interest, James Jordon, caught my attention in The Last Man on Earth and I really hope he can find his HEA with Ivy. I'll be cheering for them in The Man Plan. ;)
My Rating:
I give, The Last Man on Earth, by Tracy Anne Warren 3.5 fast-paced, flirtatious, enjoyable stars!

Sounds like a great start to a new contemporary romance series, Mikki! I sure added it to my Mt. TBR :) I enjoy stories set in a corporate setting, and having a sleek and metro male character somehow just makes me want to swoon.

Thanks for the great review! I wouldn't imagine it to be fast paced. It looks interesting just not sure it is right for me.
ReplyDeleteI think we share similar feelings on this. I liked it, but didn't feel a strong connection. It was fun, though. Nice review, Mikki!
