GR's Summary:
In the follow-up to Lisa Desrochers’ explosive New Adult novel A Little too Far, Alessandro Moretti must face the life he escaped and the girl he loved and left behind.
Twenty-two year old Hilary McIntyre would like nothing more than to forget her past. As a teenager abandoned to the system, she faced some pretty dark times. But now that’s all behind her. Hilary has her life on track, and there’s no way she’ll head back down that road again.
Until Alessandro Moretti—the one person who can make her remember—shows up on her doorstep. He’s even more devastatingly gorgeous than before, and he’s much too close for comfort. Worse, he sees right through the walls she’s built over these last eight years, right into her heart and the secrets she’s guarding.
As Hilary finds herself falling back into love with the man who, as a boy both saved and destroyed her, she must decide. Past or future? Truth or lies?

My Thoughts:
A Little Too Much, by Lisa Desrochers, is the sequel to A Little Too Far. I absolutely LOVED, A Little Too Far and even though I think that Lexie ended up with the right man, I felt so bad for Alessandro, and wanted him to get his "happily ever after." Alessandro was a beautiful character. He had a heart of gold, and a soul filled with darkness from the heavy burdens of his past. Alessandro had decided to become a priest as reparation for all the people he hurt in his teenage years. Yet, his heavy soul was never assuaged. After he met Lexie, and realized that he was not meant for the priesthood, he decided to seek out Hilary, the first girl he had ever loved, and the person from his past that haunted him the most.
Hilary was a very complex character. She had a very difficult, and dark past. Her older sister Mallory, was the only one that she could count on, and she loved her sister very much. Mallory had married Jeff, and they had two children, Henri, and Max, that Hilary was very attached to. Hilary and Mallory's mother had been put in prison for murder, and that left Hilary in a group home, as a teenager, where she met Alessandro and his older brother. Mallory had to go through the courts in order to get custody of Hilary, and the whole process took quite a while. In the meantime, Hilary and Alessandro fell in love, and helped each other to get through one of the hardest times in their lives. They were one another's only spark of sunshine in a dark and dreary time. They both never forgot the other, and had become ingrained in each others souls.
Alessandro appears in New York on Hilary's doorstep, completely shocking her, and catching her off guard. He has come to make sure that she is all right, because she is one of the ghosts that has haunted him the most throughout the years. Hilary is an aspiring actress, but hasn't gotten her big break yet. She loves acting because it helps her escape reality. Hilary currently lives with her boyfriend, also an actor, Brett. She doesn't love Brett, and there relationship lacks real intimacy. It's strictly sex, and convenience. When Alessandro arrives in town, the two of them begin to spend a lot of time together, old feelings are rekindled, the demons from their past come to the surface, and both of their lives get turned upside down.
I enjoyed, A Little Too Much. A Little Too Far is still my favorite, but I think that story was a lot lighter. A Little Too Much was darker, filled with a lot of angst, and the harsh realities that happen in life. The "vibe" was a lot different, and this story made my heart heavy. There's no doubt, that Ms. Desrochers knows how to create gorgeous, and swoon worthy male characters! The love scenes were very explicit, erotic, and down right H-O-T! I loved how she nailed the emotions that Alessandro and Hilary went through in their story. It made everything that much more intense, and explosive.
My Rating:
I give A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers 4 Dark, Gritty, Intense, Passionate, and Healing Stars! Ms. Desrochers is establishing her voice in the New Adult genre. The male characters that she creates are so delicious, you'll find yourself wishing they were real. She is very good at establishing setting. I've never been to New York, but as I was reading this story, I felt like I was exploring the city, the art, theatre, and every little nook and cranny in the city. I was crammed on the subway, walking in the crowds of people, and taking in the skyline view from Alessandro's condo. The sex scenes were so realistic, and every girls wildest fantasy's come true. Ms. Desrochers male characters sure do know how to bring a woman to her knees! If you are a fan of J. Lynn, Abbi Glines, or Elizabeth Reyes, you should definitely check out Lisa Desrochers!

I liked this, too, Lindy. But I loved ALTF so much more. I think it comes to the fact that I wanted more Alessamdro. Nice review!
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea! I was hoping for dual point of views between Hilary, and Alessandro. Yeah, I did enjoy ALTF more and gave that one 5 stars. I think my expectations for this story were really high after reading ALTF. I'm looking forward to reading A Little Too Hot. Sam wasn't my favorite character in ALTF, but the excerpt at the back of ALTM has me very excited for ALTH!
