Grace Love is lousy with men. She can spot a match for someone else a mile away, and her balls-on instincts are why her matchmaking business is thriving, but finding her own Prince Charming? The only guy who makes her sixth sense tingle is her playboy best friend, Trick, and no way is she risking their friendship, no matter how hot she knows the sex will be.
SWAT officer Trick Matthews is a patient guy, but Grace’s inability to see what’s right in front of her is grinding on his last nerve. Yeah, he blew his shot at breaking out of the friend zone when he tamped down the urge to lick her from head to toe the day they met, but he’s got a plan that’ll change her mind. Incognito at Salem's hottest Halloween party, he’ll show her exactly how good they could be…and that he’s the man for her.
My Thoughts:
Dirty Trick by Christine Bell was such a fun and fast-paced read. It was told from the main characters, Patrick (Trick) and Gracie's point of views. Gracie and Trick are friends and next-door neighbors. Gracie has been attracted to Trick since she first met him, but quickly put him in the "friend zone," when she realized that he was a player, who didn't do serious relationships. Gracie owns a matchmaking business called, "Love Will Find A Way," with her beautiful and wealthy best friend, Serena. Gracie is known for having the ability to find perfect matches for others, but when it comes to herself, she's not so lucky.
Trick is a gorgeous Swat Officer. All the ladies flock to him, but he only has eyes for Gracie. He stopped his womanizing ways over a year ago, and has tried to win Gracie over. However, no matter what he has done, he can't seem to get out of the "friend zone." So, when Trick learns that Gracie is going to a large Halloween Bash, he decides to disguise himself with an intricate mask, as the "Cat Man." He puts contacts in his eyes, uses different soap so Gracie won't recognize his scent, and disguises his voice. His ultimate plan is to seduce Gracie, and then reveal his real identity, so that she will see how great the two of them could be together. However, not everything goes as planned, and it makes for an interesting conundrum.
I really enjoyed Dirty Trick! This book flew by. It was a fun and refreshing book that was a great escape from the angst-filled books I've been reading lately. Ms. Bell brought the steam in this story! The sex scenes were hot!!! Trick made me swoon over and over again. Who doesn't love a bad boy that decides to become a one woman man when he falls in love? Trick stole the show for me, and let me tell you ladies, he will get your blood pumping, and your palms sweating!
My Rating:
I give Dirty Trick by Christine Bell 3.5 Fun, Flirty, Fantasy-Filled Stars! This story was one hot and steamy fast-paced read. The swoon factor that the Brazen name is known for was off the charts! Read Dirty Trick if your looking for a fun, easy, light, and sexy read!
My Favorite Quote:
"I want someone who makes me laugh all the time. I want someone who looks even more beautiful to me when they wake up in the morning than they do in the fanciest dress. The screen filled with Trick's face--the face that made her heart ache so badly she wished she could look away. Not likely. I want a woman who can have as much fun throwing darts and playing beer pong as she does going to the spa or going shopping. The camera pulled in closer, and she couldn't blame it one bit. His eyes were so gorgeous, so sincere and full of need. She was trapped by them and his words. I want a girl who can pick out a match from a mile away. A girl with a big, dumb dog, and an even bigger heart." (eARC, pg. 222-223)

Thanks so much to the ladies at A Bookish Escape for having me today and participating in my Dirty Trick Blog Tour! Since the book revolves around what happens when my hero, Trick, dons a costume and seduces his best friend Grace at a Halloween party, I thought it might be apropos to talk to Trick himself about inhibitions and living in the moment.
CB: Hey, Trick! So, I’ve got to put you on the hot seat here and ask the question everyone wants the answer to. What in God’s name made you thinking tricking Grace into thinking you were a stranger was a good idea?
T: *shifts in seat* *spears an agitated hand through hair* Hell if I know. I will say, though, that it wasn’t my first attempt at getting her to see we’re perfect for each other. Once I knew she was the one, I stopped having women stay over, stopped sleeping around, and let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. 184 days of nothing but self love. If that’s not determination, I don’t know what is. But she didn’t even notice. It was like, unless I did something drastic, she was never going to realize that I wasn’t the same guy I was when we met and became friends and I would never hurt her the way her asshole ex had. Plus, her confidence was shot. She couldn’t believe that there was a guy out there that thought she was the best thing going. I know it was wrong, and maybe she’ll never forgive me once she finds out, but I also know that I did gave her back something that she’d been missing for so long. Something she deserves to have. And that’s the knowledge that she’s sexy, and gorgeous, and any man in the world would be lucky to have her, both in and out of bed. If she walks away from me with that much, it’ll tear me up, but I’ll stand by my decision. Nothing is more important to me than Gracie’s happiness.
CB: Wow…okay, so on a less personal note, do you think Halloween is a good time of year for people to go outside the box and do things they normally wouldn’t do?
T: I do. I think behind the safety of a mask, maybe people can be a little bolder, a little wilder, and a little freer to do things they might not do otherwise. For some people, that can be liberating. So I say go for it. Suck down a quick brew for a little liquid courage, wear that mermaid costume and ask out that guy you never had the balls to ask out before. Worst case, he says no and you blame it on the full moon. Best case, you find the person you’re meant to be with. Or maybe it’s somewhere in the middle and you meet your sexual napalm and have the hottest night of your life. Still not too shabby, if you ask me.
CB: So do you have any tips for those of us wanting to get out there and get a little wild?
T: Sure. Here’s three things that will help you lower your inhibitions and get freaky on Halloween.
- Get a costume that makes you feel awesome. If, for you, awesome is soil-your-shorts scary, go for it. I love a good scary costume and it’s sure to get you a lot of attention. If you’re shy but want to take a night to be exactly the opposite, got with something really showy and sexy but wear a mask that shields your face. It will take away a big part of the embarrassment and may be the thing that lets you really sink into your character and BE wild and crazy for the night.
- Get a group of friends together to do whatever it is with you. It’s always easier to act a fool in a group. No fear of people laughing at you when you have people already in place who are laughing WITH you. Make sure whoever you do it with is down to have fun. If you want to dance, or play games or karaoke, make sure everyone’s on board. There’s almost no way to lose.
- If part of your plan is seduction because you’ve got your eye on someone, then be prepared for it to work. Make sure you’re wearing a sexy bra and panties, have a place where you can go to be alone, have music ready for when you get there and something cold to drink in the fridge. I’m a big proponent of positive thinking. We make shit happen with our will all the time, so if you plan for success, you have a much better chance of succeeding. Need an inspiration song? CB: *fans face* That is SOME inspiration. *adds song to knocking boots playlist* Okay, readers, talk to me! Do you feel like Halloween gives you permission to step outside your comfort zone a little and do something you wouldn’t normally do? And I’ll leave you with a short excerpt from Dirty Trick and what Trick thought the first time he saw Gracie:
When he’d seen her through the bay window of her little cottage that first morning, high up on a ladder hanging curtains in her raggedy cutoff shorts, his intentions were bad. Or good, depending on where you were standing. He’d taken a minute to brush his teeth, wipe the sleep from his eyes, and unwrap two pre-packaged sticky buns. He stuck them on a paper plate and grabbed a couple cans of soda. A minute later he was at her door, ready with an earnest offering of friendship and—if things were as tight upstairs as they appeared to be on his new neighbor’s bottom half—cunnilingus.
When she’d opened the door, though, he’d found himself staring down at the sweetest face he’d ever seen in real life—or anywhere, really. Far more Mary Ann than Ginger, with long black curls exploding around a heart-shaped face that bore no trace of makeup, she was so damned pretty it made his chest hurt. Her body was compact and round in all the right places. The shy smile she’d given him had made him want to smile right back. She was a fucking bundle of surprises, and he didn’t know what to look at first.
Then he’d seen her eyes, and he was stuck. Sooty lashes framed chocolate-brown irises, so dark that her pupils almost swallowed them. What was it about them that had thoughts of naked Twister turning to thoughts of candlelit dinners? To be fair, denial had set in fast, but those visions had been instantaneous. Like part of him knew from the very start she was the one, from the second she’d opened the door and invited him in, staring longingly at his honey buns. He never believed in stuff like that, and had happily planned to spend the rest of his life as a single guy. It had taken a while before the rest of him caught up to the notion that had teased him from the start, but six months later, he’d finally gotten it.
He was crazy about Gracie Love.
