A girl haunted by soul-crushing guilt and regret, and a boy who knows he can't afford the weakness of feeling—not if he is to survive.

Summer and Seth meet by chance and become unlikely friends. In each other, they find a safe haven... and respite from the darkness haunting them both.
Until they are betrayed.

Can they ever regain their friendship? And if they do, can they trust each other enough to take the biggest risk of all: falling in love?

My Review:

Meet Summer ''Sunny'' Moore

Since she was a little girl, Sunny has been living in a world filled with nightmares. She longs for stability in her life. Memories of that horrific tragedy haunts her every single night. Forced to live in foster homes, she finds no tranquility. Every night in her sleep, she lets out heart-stopping screams, which causes the foster families to send her away. One day, her world changes. In her new foster home, she finds what she's been looking for, PEACE. Never would she have thought that one boy could mark her life and her heart forever.

Meet Seth Lewis

Taking care of himself is nothing new to Seth. He hates the feeling of going back home to a drug addict mother and her never ending list of boyfriends. There is only one place he wants to be and that's at his grandmother's home. Since she's a foster parent, Seth has watched many children walk through those doors. He has never cared for any of them until the most beautiful little person he has ever seen arrives at their door. From the first moment he looked into her beautiful eyes, he knew that he would protect her and keep her safe.

In Summer's Desire, Olivia Lynde brings us the story of two damaged souls that complete each other. Sunny's life is far from being perfect. She has been continuously moved from one foster home to another. When she arrives at the Lewis household, she meets Seth. In this boy she finds peace and comfort. To her, Seth is the Master of the Universe. He found a way to make her nightmares go away and he gave her that tranquility that she has been looking for. To Seth, Sunny is like an unexpected blessing. He opens up to her and she does the same with him. Soon enough they become best friends.

When Seth is nine years old and Sunny almost seven, his mother returns to town. Once again, Sunny is feeling lost without her best friend. All the joy in her life is taken away. Every stolen moment that she gets at school brings her comfort. They are reunited again after six months and she drowns herself heart and soul in his presence.

After six years of happiness with Seth and Grandma Lewis, Sunny finds herself once again in the streets without a family. An unexpected tragedy sends her away from Seth. They both make a promise that no matter what, they will find a way to get back together. Sunny writes a letter everyday to Seth. The only problem is that he never gets them. These letters are being intercepted by somebody who will cause a lot of problems for them. After a year of trying to contact him, she is left numb by his lack of response. On his side, Seth thinks that Sunny bretrayed the promise that she made and he is determined to forget about her.

Five years have gone by since their separation from each other. Sunny has gone through seventeen foster homes. Her nightmares have gotten worse with each year. Fate brings her back to Rockford and near Seth again. Her new foster home is the place where she least expected to end up. Her new family is not very welcoming, which makes it even harder for her to adapt to all these new changes.  On her first day of school, she sees Seth again. What follows is not at all what she was expecting to happen.

In this beautiful story, best friends fall for one another and they will risk everything to be together.

Quotes that I loved:

Sunny

This boy is part of me, so deeply embedded in my heart and in every fiber of my being that I could sooner die than dig him out. I've always loved this boy and I always will.

I've revealead to him all of my soul- both the light and the darkness-and he owns it forever.

Seth

"I love you to insanity," he replies, utterly solemn. "That's who I am, and that is who we are. I don't have any qualms about admitting it, and I don't have any regrets. Do you?”

''I loved you when you were a child. I loved you through the five endless years when I lived without you, even though I felt hurt and betrayed. I loved you when you finally came back to me and I made you mine forever.

My Rating

I give Summer's Desire 3 ½ stars! I love stories of best friends falling in love. What Summer and Seth share is just heart-warming. They have been through a lot of problems to find their way back to each other. The author did an amazing job in making us connect with the characters. Some I hated, some I loved which is what I look for in a book. When I read, I need to feel the connection. The storyline was well elaborated. I look forward to reading another book from this author.
